The History of the Long Neck Banjo
In1947, folksinger Pete Seeger wanted a banjo with a longer neck. The instrument he designed gave him a wider variety of songs that could be played in standard tunings simply by pushing the capo down a fret or two.
Soon, Pete's banjo design took the music world by storm and the long neck VEGA open back banjo was the standard of folk singers worldwide, from the Kingston Trio to Don McLean, Roger McGuinn and many others.
The WoodSongs Design
One of the few long neck players today, Michael Johnathon approached the Deering Banjo Company about designing a unique, sleek, updated look and sound to this classic instrument. Master luthier Greg Deering took those suggestions and came up with the long neck banjo that Michael plays on all the WoodSongs broadcasts.
Seen on TV and the internet by millions of fans, requests for information about Michael's banjo have come in steadily. As a result, the Deering Banjo Company decided to make a commitment to the WoodSongs Long Neck design..... by adding the WoodSongs name to the classic Deering/Vega series.
